Review: Maybelline Polka Dots Collection

Chalk Dust is an amazing clear based polish with matte black and white glitter in it. It has such a cool effect! In the bottle it looks very similar to L’Oreal’s Confetti topcoat, but seems to have more different sized glitter in it. The application was actually really easy, with only two coats to get a decent glitter coverage.

I love how it looks on the nail and just couldn’t wait to try it on over another colour. Here is it over LA Colors Illusion that I got a few weeks ago. I think it works better over medium tones colours like this one, as if you use too pale a colour you’d lose the white glitter and if you use too dark a colour you’d lose the black glitter. I think this polish is my favourite in the collection!

Rain Forest Canopy is a cool greeny-turquoise jelly polish packed full of black and white glitter, although the multiple layers make the glitter look all sorts of shades of green which I love! It took three coats to get to this opacity and coverage of glitter, and it really didn’t seem too thick on the nail which I liked.

Shooting Stars is a rich medium to dark blue jelly polish, also with black and white bits of matte glitter in it. The glitter in this case ends up looks various shades of blue which is so pretty! This also took only three coats to get to this opacity and didn’t seem too thick on the nail. I think it could have used another topcoat though, just to smooth out the glitter a bit more.

Speckled Pink is probably my second favourite in the group. It’s a lovely pink jelly polish with matte black and white glitter, with the white pieces looking more pink. I thought this colour looked great on me! I’m not much of a pink person but I really love this! It took three coats to get to this opacity.

I should also add that these polishes dry SO QUICKLY. I literally had to wait seconds in between coats which was great as you get the finished effect so much quicker!

Like I said earlier, I’m not sure when these polishes are due out, but keep your eyes peeled for them in Boots and Superdrug stores as they are only £2.99 each which is a total bargain! Boots also has a buy one get one half price offer on at the moment, so I picked up all of these polishes for only £9 which was awesome!
